Setting your son or daughter up for success at the dentist is a priceless gift you can give your child. Regular visits to the dentist every six months is one of the best ways to protect your little one's precious smile. Bringing them to the dentist early on helps build positive experiences and a friendly relationship with their children's dentist in Barrie.

At Park Place Dental, we love taking care of children, and our dentists recommend that children have their first visit around the age of one-year-old. Here's what you can expect when your little one meets our dental team.

The First Dental Visit at Our Barrie Clinic

12 months may seem early to bring your baby in for their first dental visit, but it helps us monitor your son or daughter's oral development when we start building these relationships early on. We'll check and count their first baby teeth and get them acclimated to riding in the dental chair.

After their first visit, your little one should come to the dentist every six months for checkups just like you do. When they get old enough, and once they feel ready for it, we'll start to incorporate teeth cleanings into their visits.

Caring for Small Teeth at Home

Your child will need your assistance with brushing and flossing their teeth in between their dental visits until they're around seven or eight years old. You can incorporate a toothpaste fortified with fluoride when they can spit.

Getting your son or daughter involved in the brushing and flossing process by letting them choose their favourite toothpaste flavours or colourful toothbrushes makes the process fun and helps build good habits they can rely on in the future.

Don't forget to schedule their routine oral checkups and teeth cleanings at Park Place Dental every six months. If you're looking for excellent children's dentistry in Barrie, give us a call today at (705) 728-9922.
